  1. very thick parts sprues, why? 3 Star Review

Posted by on 13th Mar 2023

Plastic parts difficult to remove from thick sprues causing breakage, hard to get a straight cut causing poor fitting connections. The steering wheel is impossible to remove without destroying it. It needs to be added to photo etched sheet of parts. The metal parts were good.

    From SmallScaleHobbies.com:

To start with, this is a resin model not a plastic one.

Resin needs a little different handling than plastic. The parts should not be just snapped off the sprue. A modeler needs to use more caution and take the time to carefully remove the parts to avoid breakage.

The large blocks of sprue are from the casting process and are common in many resin model kits. Do not try to cut the small parts from the large blocks of material they may be attached to in one single cut. Scoring a little at a time with your knife blade works wonders to save parts from breaking often. Then you can just sand any extra material from the part to finish it before you attach it.

Also, do not forget to use CA glues (Super-Glue) instead of the standard plastic cement.

I’m excited to build this kit. I’ve not seen this piece in the past. I was excited to learn it exists. Nicely detailed piece for my combat engineers unit.
