The Panzer III, Sd.Kfz. 141 was used in all the German WWII campaigns in Europe, North Africa and Norway from 1939 through 1945. The Ausf. J was the most common variant of the Panzer III, which served in North Africa and the Eastern Front. Armed with the 5cm KwK 38 L/42 as standard gun. Hull and turret front armor increased to solid 50mm plate. Over 1500 of the type J variants were produced through 1942. Production ceased in 1943 for all Panzer III variants.
